SUSTAINABLE POOLHOUSE
Project Description:
DiGuiseppe designed this pool house for his family shortly after acquiring the 30 acres parcel, along with a 1740 Dutch Stone House. The property has a sloping rear yard which is surrounded by indigenous stone rubble walls. The Pool and pool house was planned to cut into the slope where the property leveled off before dropping again over another stone rubble wall. Determined to use as much sustainable as possible, DiGuiseppe used the rubble limestone found on the property for the walls, inside and out. The cedar shingles were left over from the House roof replacement, and the side windows were leftovers from the Door Store in Woodstock. The timber beams, 16” x 16” used for the exterior and interior roof framing were salvaged from the Balitmore pier, that had been under water for 50 years, which were cut to size. The piece d’ resistance are the two front pairs of wood and metal doors, which were salvaged from the Chateau D’If, the legendary prison on the island D’if off Marseille. The portions of the pool house were decided upon based on the historical doors and transoms. |
