THE SPA AT THE LOTTE NEW YORK PALACE
Project Description - PROJECT UNDER DESIGN
The Lotte New York Palace is the premier five star full service hotel that incorporates the Historic Villard Mansion and Courtyard entry into a 909-room tower. DiGuiseppe has been commissioned to rebrand and design a new Spa and Fitness Center overlooking the historic courtyard, with magnificent views of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The ownership has charged DiGuiseppe with the task of incorporating the style and sophistication of the Villard Mansion, while complimenting the five star hotel guest experience as an indigenous New York property. DiGuiseppe is working with the International Spa management company WTS International to design this spa and fitness as an internationally famous ESPA brand. |

HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY
Lotte New York Palace possesses a prestigious heritage unique among hotels in New York. More than a century ago, Henry Villard, one of the nation's most prominent financiers, commissioned McKim, Mead & White to create a residence of singular style. Constructed in 1882, that residence became known as The Villard Houses. Over the next century, the residence would change from private homes to offices for the Archdiocese and later, corporate offices for internationally known companies.
In the mid-1970s, the Archdiocese of New York, owners of the land, cleared the way for a hotel development that would incorporate this unique property, gracefully blending the landmark 1882 Villard Houses with a contemporary 55-story tower. The hotel opened in 1980 as The Helmsley Palace. In 1993, the hotel changed ownership and again underwent a comprehensive multi-million dollar restoration and refurbishment program to position it as a landmark NYC luxury hotel. The Palace's famed Courtyard was once the Madison Avenue carriage entrance of The Villard Houses, which was redesigned during the restoration to incorporate motifs from the flooring of several 15th-century Italian cathedrals.
Today, the legendary Villard Houses, now The Villard Mansion, provides a stunning venue for business and social occasions with the elegant Villard Ballroom. Through this perfect blend of past and present, the legacy of this historic New York City hotel continues, providing guests with a distinctive experience at a truly iconic luxury New York hotel.
